About the Project

The Horizon Europe–funded project PlaceMUS XR is part of the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage.

The project aims to create a digital musical map where musical spaces from different European countries and the traditions connected to them will be brought to life virtually in Extended Reality (XR) format.

Visitors can enjoy fully digital experiences or follow mixed physical–digital routes on site. Users will be able to discover not only specific musical traditions but also their historical and cultural contexts, as well as the distinctive features of the environments associated with them.

Our Role

The mission of Folk Life Georgia within this project is to ensure that Georgian traditional polyphony is clearly represented on the virtual map created by the project. The project offers a unique opportunity to make our cultural heritage even more accessible to the world.

Our goal is to research important genres of Georgian traditional music, the specific places associated with them, and their performance contexts.

Based on archival materials, field recordings, and through collaboration with representatives of traditional music communities, we will collect, prepare, and present rich metadata that will allow visitors to fully experience and understand Georgian polyphony in its natural social and cultural environment.
